The BlueLine Rental Geismar, LA store has had a busy summer including an open house, a busy sponsorship/equipment supplier relationship with the New Orleans Saints and a surprise visit from the National Guard – in need of help.    CUSTOMER APPRECIATION OPEN HOUSE Approximately 200 attendees recently attended the Geismar customer appreciation open house. “It was our opportunity to show our customers and prospective customers how much they and their business means to us,” Sean Suhre, branch manager, says.  “It was also a good opportunity to get our new brand out there. October 6-10 marks the 18th year of the Drive Safely Work Week campaign.  The campaign, sponsored by the Network for Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) was created to heighten safe driving awareness.  On the NETS web site, http://trafficsafety.org, safety materials which can be used throughout the year are available for download.  These materials can be used with team members and customers alike, to bolster safe driving programs.   The NETS safe driving campaign is a four step program – Step 1 – Lead, Step 2 – Engage, Step 3 – Extend and Step 4 – Sustain.  On the NETS site, a variety of information is offered within each of the four steps to increase safe driving awareness in each category.  Step 1 – Lead consists of a safety overview introduction to the program with facts and figures culled from NETS and OSHA. Within a short time we will know whether H.R. 5021:  the Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014 will be enacted. The Highway and Transportation Funding Act of 2014 which authorizes appropriations from October 1, 2014 through May 31, 2015, passed the House and Senate, but the Senate made changes and sent it back to the House on July 29th.   The Highway and Transportation Funding Act is expected to pass and provide an extension of Federal-aid for several programs funded from the Highway Trust Fund.  Those programs include dollars that will be spent on highway programs, highway safety and transit.  Obviously, this is good news for our industry.  BlueLine Rental is ready to work with our customers and contractors nationwide to meet their diverse rental equipment needs both current and upcoming. BlueLine Rental recently announced the appointment of Phillip H. Hobson as CEO.  Mr. Hobson will replace Scott Hall, who left the company earlier this month. Mr. Hobson will join BlueLine Rental from Mobile Mini, Inc., a leading provider of portable storage solutions, where he served as Executive Vice President, Operations. What changes do the Globally Harmonized System (GHS) of classification and labeling bring to the construction industry? The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has introduced a new classification and labeling system – the GHS standard. GHS is an acronym for Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling.  The new system promises to standardize and simplify communications on chemicals - throughout the world. Initially this new standard will affect our industry by standardizing our use and creation of Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).  MSDS sheets will now be universally referred to as Standard Data Sheets (SDS).
